Safety Tips for Back to School Season:  You’ve probably already noticed an increase in activity at Lanier Middle School, as teachers and students are getting ready for the upcoming year -first day, August 27.  As summer programs began to wrap-up and the school year inches closer, here are a few tips from HPD:

1. No texting and driving! Not only is it unsafe but it could lead to a fine of up to $200.
2. Parents, please follow the designated drop-off or pick-up locations. I observed a citizen nearly have an accident twice by trying to avoid a drop-off point. We cannot be willing to sacrifice our children’s safety, for the sake of convenience.
3. Some of our youth aren’t paying attention when they are crossing the road or while walking to school.  Cellphones, headphones, group conversations, etc.
4. Be on the lookout for school zone signals and obey the posted speed limits. Fines start off at approximately $200.00
5. Expect increased traffic. For many of you, your patience is amazing! To report reckless or speeding drivers, please dial 713-884-3131.To report issues within or around school drop-off points, please contact the school’s administration, 713-942-1900. If there is an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.
