Safety Tip – Spring Break brings increase in crime!

WHAT: Increase in property crimes due to HISD Spring Break

WHERE: Our neighborhoods

Houston ISD Spring Break begins March 13. Due to the students being out of school, we usually see an increase in property crimes for our contracts. We are asking that you be aware it is the Spring Break season, watchful over your property, and report any suspicious activity. Lock your car, take your keys and valuables from the car, do not park on the street (if at all possible), secure outdoor property such as bikes & lawn equipment, and call our Office if you suspect any suspicious activity.

Be safe,

Constable Alan Rosen

General Update: HPD reported 13 crimes in our neighborhoods for February. As always, a majority of them (10) were car burglaries and 2 thefts. Unfortunately, a home break in occurred on the 1700 block of Marshall in Winlow Place. The report below shows it as 2 separate incidences but only one residence was burglarized. Approximately $1500 worth of merchandise was stolen from a separate building on the property. We’re happy to report that no one was harmed. Click on the map for more detailed information about the incidences referenced above. Please note that it is possible to view sex offenders on the Crime Reports map, if you are concerned.

Scam Alert – Tax Time

SCAM ALERT from the Constable’s Office – It’s tax time and tax scams will be on the rise!

Residents need to be aware of scammers and tactics. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! In recent years, thousands of people have lost millions of dollars and their personal information to tax scams and fake IRS communication. Click here for more detailed information from the IRS.

REMEMBER: The IRS does NOT initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. In addition, IRS does not threaten taxpayers with lawsuits, imprisonment or other enforcement action. Being able to recognize these tell-tale signs of a phishing or tax scam could save you from becoming a victim
