WHAT: Armed robberies of pedestrians
WHERE: Montrose area
WHEN: Tuesday night, May 17
A robbery team of a man and young woman carried out at least three stick-ups. Locations included the 1700 block of Hawthorne, the 2500 block of Park and the 1800 block of Cherryhurst.
The robberies start with a ruse: The woman, described as an African-American in her late teens or early 20s, wearing dark clothing, approaches a pedestrian and says she needs help because she has been abused by her boyfriend and robbed. During the conversation, an African-American man wearing dark trousers approaches with a shotgun and demands the pedestrian’s belongings. The woman may have used a shotgun in one of the robberies, too.
Their getaway car was a yellow Chevrolet Camaro.
HPD and Precinct 1 are working on the cases. Please call 911 if you see suspicious behavior by individuals matching the descriptions.
