General Update: With the end of the holiday season, the level of property crime in our neighborhoods has dropped dramatically. While we encourage everyone to be cautious, and continue to lock their doors and not leave anything in their cars, it is nice to see these crimes dropping back to the low levels we have been able to achieve by instituting the constable’s patrol. In January, the constable only received reports of a single motor vehicle burglary (in the 1500 block of Hawthorne) and no home burglaries. The Jan. 29 vehicle burglary involved a thief taking the tailgate from a Ford truck during daylight hours. No information about a suspect was available. As you can see from this screenshot of the police department’s website, crime continues to decline in the patrol area even though it remains higher in the area around us.
A Note From Constable Rosen: “I am so happy to see that the partnership between Precinct 1 and your neighborhood is working, as witnessed by the lid we are keeping on crime. Your involvement in the fight for public safety is serving as a beacon for homeowner associations in other neighborhoods very close to yours. I know because I have visited with them recently and shared your lower crime stats. Please help us sustain the effort in Cherryhurst, Mandell Place, and Winlow Place by looking out for each other and reporting any suspicious activity to us immediately. It’s better that we check out activity that turns out to be innocent than for you to say nothing about behavior that can turn out to be dangerous. Be safe!”
Security Tips: The constable patrol is most effective when we all take common sense steps to deter crime:
- Activate your security system at all times, and connect it directly to the Constable Dispatch (you must call your alarm company and have their responding agency listed as Harris County Constable Precinct One at 713-755-7628).
- Report crime and suspicious activity to the constable’s office at 713-755-7628. Make sure to mention that you are calling from a “contract neighborhood.” (For emergencies in progress, dial 911).
- Go to the website and sign-up for security alerts.
- Lock your garage and car.
- Do not leave items in car.
- Never disclose Constable Patrol hours of operation via online social networks (like Facebook or Nextdoor). We are disadvantaged if potential criminals are aware of our vulnerabilities.
Subscription Notes: Annual subscriptions to the Constable Patrol for Mandell and Winlow Place are up for renewal in May. Be on the lookout for more information from your neighborhood representatives regarding the timing, amount, and payment of dues. For any immediate questions, please email info@mwpatrol.org.
