Crime Alert – Drug heist by Deputy Lopez

WHAT: Suspicious Person Report results in felony possession arrest

WHERE: Cherryhurst Park

As reported by Deputy Lopez, on 03/04/2017: I was dispatched to a suspicious person at the park located at 2100 Ridgewood (Cherryhurst Park). The reportee stated that a black male and a white female were in the park possibly smoking marijuana. I arrived on scene and observed a black male and a white female sitting at the park bench. As I was walking towards them the female placed an unknown item in her back waistband. I made contact with the subjects and detected a strong smell of burnt marijuana coming from their clothing. I requested identifications from parties. The male was identified and was found to be from California. The female was identified to be from Sulphur Texas. When asked both parties admitted to be smoking marijuana but were unclear on why they were in Houston. The female stated that she had an identification card inside the vehicle. The female was then escorted to her vehicle and as she opened the door I smelled a strong odor or marijuana coming from inside. A search was conducted discovering 4 small bags containing a green leafy substance. In the rear of the vehicle I discovered a cardboard box that was overnighted from Las Vegas to Houston Texas. Inside the box another sealed cardboard box was located sealed. I requested a K9 and HPD K9 unit arrived. The K9 alerted to the box. The box was opened and inside the box six metal containers were discovered with the Label Satiam Pumpkin Spice on the outside.

The containers were found to have a false bottom. Inside the container a vacuumed seal bag was located wrapped in mint paper. The contents were discovered to be Half a Pound of Marijuana in each can totaling approximately 4 pounds of Marijuana. Both subjects were arrested for Felony Possession of Marijuana and transported to Harris County Jail.

We were thrilled to hear this arrest was a direct result of a Suspicious Persons Report from a Cherryhurst resident! Keep your eyes open and don’t hesitate to contact the Constable. Working together is key in keeping our neighborhoods secure

Keep up the good work and be safe,
