March 2018 Newsletter

We are so lucky to live in a neighborhood surrounded by fabulous restaurants and bars. We know that our area’s charm and walkability are some of it’s biggest attractors. Unfortunately, this lends to some wreckless and dangerous behavior. You may notice in the Constable Activity Report that there were 12 Traffic Stops, approximately half of them occur between 12:00 – 2:00 a.m. when patrons are heading home, and 1 DWI arrest, occurring around 2:00 a.m. Fortunately for us, our deputies are on the lookout for any suspicious behavior; keeping our streets safe, not just for us, but for our visitors as well. The ability of our deputies to arrest and detain or simply hand out warnings is vital to our safety and security – even when we are sleeping soundly in our beds.

Spring Break is just around the corner!
If you are heading out of town, don’t forget to sign up for Vacation Watch. It’s 60 seconds of your time, for a week’s worth of peace.

General Update: There were 21 incidents in our neighborhoods, 19-Thefts from Vehicles, 1-Theft of Vehicle, 1-Theft, and 1-Assault with a Deadly Weapon. We cannot stress enough the importance of locking car doors and removing valuables from parked vehicles. If you know or see someone you are familiar with parking on your street, politely remind them to lock up. It’s only a matter of time before they become a victim! January 2018 Newsletter

Happy New Year!
We hope everyone in our neighborhoods and community had a safe and happy holiday season and will continue to do so in 2018.

Our neighborhoods, like those surrounding us, will always be very attractive for criminals seeking crimes of opportunity. Yet, we have seen a steady decline in criminal activity since the start of the Constable Patrol Program in 2015. The presence of the deputies, their community involvement, and their commitment to ensuring our safety and security has been the biggest deterrent. However, you and your neighbor’s involvement is also needed. Please join our efforts in maintaining security.

  • Lock your cars and remove valuables.
  • Lock your home doors.
  • Keep your garage and/or gates closed.
  • Turn on an exterior light.
  • Report any suspicious activity to the constable – 713-755-7628. (Program the Constable’s number in your phone for easy access.)
  • Participate in Vacation Watch.
  • Look out for your neighbors.
  • If you haven’t already, join the Constable Patrol Program!

We, the board of MWSF, commit to ensuring this is a safe year in our community and hope you will join us.

Request from Constable Rosen:

Unusual attempt to return a cell phone to its owner………We rec’vd a call on January 3rd from Copper Mountain looking to return a cell phone to its owner. The cell is locked but it had a blue “Alan Rosen” sticker on the back which has our dispatch number so it has to be someone that is known in some manner to our Office. We’re reaching out to you since you are very connected to your residents and may know someone who is currently in Colorado. The cell phone was left and found on the 3rd, so if you know anyone who is vacationing at Copper Mountain, can you please try to contact them so they can retrieve the cell phone.

The contact person at Copper Mountain is Joseph at 505-508-7361.

Thanks for your help!

The assault was reported to HPD on 12/11 around 2:00 a.m. Click on the map for more detailed information. The Constable issued 1 Crime Alert concerning Package Thefts, which is a recurring problem this time of year.

Crime Alert – Porch Thief Caught in Action!

WHAT:  Stolen Packages from Front Porch

WHERE:  Mandell Place

A thief was caught on video stealing a package from a neighbor’s front porch in Mandell Place. An unidentified male can be clearly seen walking very casually onto the front porch where 2 packages had been delivered. He chooses the smaller one and walks away. This crime occurred in the middle of the day, around 4:20 p.m., while the resident was not home. Close up shots of the thief were delivered to the Constable the next day. The Captain of the Patrol Division tells us it has been circulated to all Montrose area deputies. If anyone else has similar surveillance video of this crime or any others, please forward to info@mwpatrol.org and we will make sure the Constable gets a copy.

Please keep your eyes open and don’t hesitate to report any suspicious activity.  It’s our best defense against this type of crime!
