Crime Alert – Credit Card Skimmer

What: Credit Card Skimmer Found

Where: Montrose Area

Neighbors,

Several people have reported their credit cards were compromised after pumping gas at Shell station on West Alabama and Montrose.  Police say a credit card skimmer may have been used at the pump.  You can read more about it here.

If you have frequented this gas station in the past few months, you may want to check your bank account statements.

Fortunately, there are a few apps that have been created to deter this type of criminal activity. The Skimmer Scanner is designed to help users detect if there is a skimming device before you get gas.  You turn on the app near the pump and if it says “No Skimmer Found”, you are good to swipe your card.  Check your App Store to see what’s available.

Be Safe,

Constable Al Rosen

Crime Alert – Rim & Tire Thefts

What: Rim & Tire Theft
Where: Montrose Area
The Constable has reported some issues with the theft of rims and tires and wanted to advise people with expensive rims or tires that locking lug nuts are available.

Per the Constable: Here is one example of Lug Nut Wheel Locks. You can pay as much as you want for them, high or low. What you do is remove one of your regular lugs on each tire and replace it with this special lug. As you can see it has a design in the center that requires a special “key” to put it on and to take it off. On regular lug nuts, they are universal so any lug wrench will remove many different size nuts. This is a deterrent. These can be cut off but that takes a lot of time that a crook does not want to spend. You want them to see the special lug and move on to someone else. We have three trucks in our drive considering I have boys. All three trucks have locking lugs as deterrent. Hope this helps. They are available at any parts store.

Be safe,

Constable Alan Rosen
